A Day in the Life of Adrian Fernandez, Helper Recruiting Coordinator

In our Day in the Life series, we introduce you to a member of the Dolly team and give you a peek into what it’s like to work for Dolly. This month, we’re introducing you to Adrian, our Helper Recruiting Coordinator.

Name: Adrian Fernandez

Title: Helper Recruiting Coordinator

How long have you been working at Dolly? 8 months

What do you do as the Helper Recruiting Coordinator? I work on the Helper Team interacting with Helpers and applicants throughout most of the day. There are two focuses to my job currently, applicants getting through the application process and Helpers after activation getting onto the platform, setting them up for success, and sharing communication about new features. I also help our Support Team with answering Helper questions and reading their feedback.

What’s your favorite thing about working at Dolly? Being on a team that is making a difference in people’s lives – not just for our customers – but for our Helpers as well.

Any fun facts about yourself that you’d like to share? Today is my one year anniversary in Seattle! Coming from San Antonio, Texas and being able to see seasons is amazing. Seattle has been wonderful and I have Dolly to thank for a lot of that! Oh and I’m a Dance Dance Revolution champion.

Adrian’s Day in the Life

6:00AM

I wake up and catch up with any personal messages and emails. Most of my family and friends live in Texas so they’re already awake and have messaged me. I’m a little sore from schooling some co-workers at Dance Dance Revolution. I catch up with news by reading through my Twitter feed and The Washington Post.

6:30AM

Time to get ready! I put on the New York Times podcast, The Daily.

7:00AM

Time for a walk with the dogs! Meet Marlo and Ziggy.

7:35AM

I begin my commute to work. It’s about a 30 minute walk to get to Dolly HQ. I use this time to listen to music or a podcast. Today I’m listening to Courtney Marie Andrew’s newest album May Your Kindness Remain.

8:05AM

I’m in the office. Someone brought donuts, I try my hardest to say no. I brought my usual for breakfast, a banana and RX bar. My stomach trembles with disagreement.

I start the day at work by checking my email and Slack. Then I put together my to-do list for the day which includes working through a couple projects to improve our application process, communication to Helpers about the upcoming weekend, and processing applications for new Helpers.

9:55AM

I’m getting ready for the Helper Virtual Office Hours (which we do twice a week on Tuesdays and Thursdays for one hour to talk with Helpers and answer any questions they have) and talking to a new Helper applicant on the phone at the same time. It’s been that kind of morning.

10:00AM

I’m joined by our Operations Manager Jeremy for the Virtual Office Hour with new Helpers! We go live with them on YouTube so they can ask any questions they have about being a Helper. It’s a lot of fun and a new way for Helpers to reach out to us for questions.

11:00AM

Weekly one-on-one with Jeremy, we wrap it up with a conference call.

12:00PM

Back to work on a couple of things on my to-do list.

1:00PM

Time for lunch. Today is an eat-at-my-desk kind of day. I heat up some leftovers, today is a quinoa taco bowl mashup with some salsa and spices! I take a couple minutes to catch up on some news for the day and listen to some music, now I’m listening to an all-time favorite album, The Format’s Dog Problems. I have about an hour to work before my next meeting.

2:00PM

Back-to-back meetings on where we can improve our communication to new and existing Helpers, as well as what avenues are working (or maybe not working) for recruiting interested applicants and how we can cut down on friction in our application process.

4:00PM

Check off a few of the last things on my to-do!

5:15PM

Time for my commute home! I put on the podcast Converge with Casey Newton where he interviews Pocket Founder/CEO Nate Weiner.

5:45PM

Made it home, took the bus to get home a little quicker. We feed the dogs and take them out for walk down by the Seattle Center before going out for the evening.

6:30PM

We go to the Queen Anne Farmer’s Market! Our first time and pick up a random assortment of things to make this weekend. We also stop by the pet store to replenish our dog treats.

7:30PM

Dinner time, we try out Mezcaleria Oaxaca in Queen Anne. 5 stars.

9:00PM

We get home and start winding down for the night. This is usually the time we use to read or catch up on TV shows. Tonight we watch The Incredibles to get ready for the 2nd one, but we fall asleep midway through.

10:00PM

We take the pups outside one last time.

P.S. Donuts won the battle, by the way.
